Just last week, I was surprised to learn that I had been awarded the “Versatile Blogger Award”. I cannot explain how excited and honoured I felt when I received the nomination from the wonderful and inspirational blogger Conservationist Krissy.
The Versatile Blogger Award is given to new bloggers to encourage and support them on their blogging journey. It helps to promote fellow bloggers who inspire them and may need more recognition. In part with receiving this award I am to share 7 facts about myself and nominate another two bloggers with this award.
So here goes….
1. I love dancing!
I dance tango, salsa and bachata. Every week I take classes and go out dancing socially. I absolutely love the music and once I hear it, it’s hard to make me sit still! When I dance, I forget about everything else and I’m just in the moment, enjoying the connection with my partner and the music.
2. I am learning how to sew
Last year I became interested in sewing. I got my own sewing machine, took some lessons and have been experimenting ever since. Being creative and making things with my own two hands that I can use or wear, makes me happy! Sewing is relaxing and I feel proud when a project comes together.
3. I enjoy DIY projects
To me up-cycling and restoring furniture to make it look eclectic or rustic is a lot of fun. When possible, I shop in second hand stores to see what goodies I can find, that I could use for my next DIY project. I also like to make concrete planters, soaps, dream-catchers, the list is endless!
4. I used to hate my curly hair
My curly hair I got from my dad and throughout high school majority of people didn’t know I had curls. I straightened my hair every week for years. These days I embrace my curls and am learning to love and live with them!
5. My great grandma lived past 100 years old!
My great grandmother lived just a few weeks short of her 101st birthday. She was dancing strong at her 100th birthday. Spoke two languages and her mind was sharp until the end. She was independent, patient, strong, caring, inspirational and the list goes on.
6. I don’t eat gluten or dairy
I am intolerant and am so glad I stopped. For a month several years ago I quit both to determine if it was affecting me negatively. When I ate it again, I could see the effects it was having on me and now I avoid it. I have more energy, clearer skin and no abdominal pains among many other benefits. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t but I’m much healthier for it.
7. I avoid the daily news
It is always so negative and I try to live a positive, thankful life. I don’t want to be subjected constantly to all the bad that is happening around the world. Instead I read inspirational books, watch documentaries or listen to podcasts. I don’t even own a TV! We should be inspiring each other to do good in the world, not creating hate.
So that’s enough about me! Below are my two nominees I have chosen for the Versatile Blogger Award:
- Hannah Pollock and Jamie Unwin – @standupfornature
These guys are zoology students who have started their own NGO focusing on producing short films, using a bicycle powered cinema. The films focus on wildlife crime or human wildlife conflict issues and are shown to affected communities. They are using education to bring about cultural evolution to conserve wildlife. These guys are in inspiration and I ask you to join me in supporting them to help them continue taking action to create awareness for all the amazing wildlife in the world.
- Lidewij – @roamwithloveofficial
Lidewij has a beautiful blog about exploring the natural world mindfully, sustainably and lovingly. Her posts are for travelers who are conscious about their impact on the world, who love animals and nature. Her and I are very similar in many ways. She has spent time volunteering with animals at different wildlife sanctuaries, working with dogs and traveling the world. Support her and she may inspire you to start your own adventure and help the world become a better place.
Thanks again to Krissy for the nomination.
Please leave a comment about anything you read, or if need any advice. I would love to hear from you.
